I'm looking into getting a NAS set up and fortunately I waited until the absolute top of the market to get in :(

Ok the nas arrived and the hard drives come in soon, looks like I pulled the trigger right before the msrp got raised for no reason other than that's just what we do now
Apparently the nas runs a Debian Linux and can do docker which I don't know what that means but I would be able to run pihole on it and unhook the raspberry pi I have, and I think I might look into running an openclaw bot for all my super important personal affairs I need to outsource such as personal fitness

The Internet says openclaw is completely mismanaged and vulnerable and has the potential to ruin your life which sounds like what I'm looking for

docker let's you deploy containerized apps, which is a lightweight executable that has all the components it needs to run (app dlls,
external dlls,
static files, etc). I could containerize club409 and you could host it on your nas. Of course there would be some additional network setup for it to be accessible through the interwebs. If i lose my job, we might need to explore that as a viable option. What're your internet up/down speeds?

116d/27u (cheapest Comcast) but it would prob work, I guess we'd still need to pay for dns somewhere, although "reverse proxy" is a thing that does stuff idk, we haven't self hosted since like version 0.2 in the dorms I believe, but I'm case they replace you with openarif yes we might need to look into it
Been meaning to ask how the 409 devs working on their vibe coding skills

I'm studying for gh-300 cert, which focuses on using github copilot for coding. I used it on my last client, and I used it to refactor code pretty quickly.
I'm working on a new version of 409 using angular and asp.net core. I made some progress, but it's basically a full rewrite, so it's going slower than I hoped. I need to leverage ai to speed things along, but I've been reluctant to give in to the dark side.

I still have a pretty visceral "eww" response when encouraged to use AI for all the things. I have leaned on it to generate unit tests, and it (mostly) does that well enough to at least get me started.
I surprise myself with how much I am resisting the whole thing.

I'm still tinkering with my NAS but I'll say one of the inversions between working in Linux v Windows is that when something's not working on win you prob need a reboot, but if things are working in Linux I'm scared to reboot what if none of it comes back the way I have it running now
I'll say if there's a market for janky solutions that seem to work mostly but I don't really understand why they work, I've probably got a NAS setup business on my hands, a few more things to try then I'm gonna give y'all a write up, you guys can't wait I know

Ok I think I'm gonna go as far as practicable away from windows going forward, I'll have some holdouts like my music production computer and the occasional game that runs way better in Windows bc Nvidia, but I ordered some computers for the boys and I'll prob leave a little windows partition on it just in case but they're gonna use Linux bc I don't feel like it's just gonna break from vibe codes or throw ai nonsense at them that no one asked for, will prob propagate out from there to other machines in the house
right now I've got machines with win 10, 11, bazzite, steamos, and proprietary Debian on the nas, i want to try to consolidate as much as possible, and because of having to use those last 3 and getting ok results in Gemini I'm feeling just confident enough to ruin everyone's workflows
I think I've narrowed it down to mint or zorin
