1st post from my new computer! w00t! Everything is running smooth so far. I haven't been able to test it thoroughly yet. Shawn let me borrow GRAW...but he didn't give me the cd-key. ::shakes fist:: I want to run some benchmarks on it but I can't remember any quality ones that were free. Any suggestions?

edit: G? Maybe some JTF?

i dont understand why anyone links to slashdot/digg/whatever "articles". just link to the damn source article or we'll have an endless tree of these shitty social bookmarking sites linking to each other before you get to the real crap

alright michael's drunk with loan monies and he's getting a tablet PC. Here are the prime candidates:
HP for about 1300 cool features 2G ram 4.5 lbs but has the dreaded AMD dual-cores FTL and i dunno about the batt life but its equipped with the biggest batt possible.

ASUS for more like 1900 (or 1750 openbox) intel core 2 duo 2GHz 4Mb cache 2G ram 200G hd 4.2 lbs fingerprint reader free bag and wireless mouse! But no built-in webcam. ;-)

Whaddaya think? Like any others better? I'ma order sunday night.

oh and the openbox policy is kinda fishy. does that say what i think it does - that my laptop wouldn't come with any of the listed accessories?

My vote is for the ASUS. Mostly bc the link for the HP one requires a login :O but also bc I spend the last hour hunting with you. ;)

what do you have against amd noob

Nothin against AMD like I got nothing against someone who makes any inferior product (except sony i guess) but I'm not gonna buy a Turion X2 when it barely outperforms the Core Solo.

that's core duo in that link not core solo which was the competition when Turion X2 came out. amd unfortunately hasn't released a mobile competitor to the core 2 duo.

if you want to talk about inferior products intel is the sony of the microprocessor industry not amd. amd is currently suing intel in practically every nation on the face of this planet with a laundry list of evidence of intel's shady business tactics. for example intel threatened nearly all of their major retail partners such as dell hp and gateway (each of which has since come forward and testified on behalf of amd) to nullify the corporate rebates whenever they attempted to launch amd-based product lines.

my absolute favorite shady tactic however has to be the one discovered not by amd but by some joe-blow software developer somewhere. trying to troubleshoot poor performance of his app on amd machines he started diving into the assembly code. then he accidentally discovered that the intel compiler checks for the "genuine intel" cpu flag before it checks to see if the cpu supports mmx sse sse2 and all those other intel instruction set extensions so it never even gets checked on an amd processor who pays intel for the right to use those instruction sets!
