so i'm running vista on my new PC cause i get it free from the awesomeness that is LSU. supposedly some features in vista are soooo much better than previous versions so tonight i tried out the indexed search since its supposed to be uber fast and efficient.

go to search type in name of file i know is on E: drive... no results. hmm. right-click on drive E: yep indexing enabled box is checked. right click on drive E: then click search... ooo a little pop-up bar says this drive is not indexed click here to change it! so i click and up pops the indexing options box! sure enough the settings in there are completely different and say nothing about ANY drive in the computer being indexed just a few isolated folders such as mail and start menu! way to have the most common OS interface totally NOT tied into the hidden settings page that actually control it!

so there's one place to enable it on the drive and another place to actually index it / specify which directories should be indexed?
