V that was nuts
tl;dw: watch the first 40 seconds then skip to ~9:45
Every time I hear this song I think that it should be the 409 party theme song. Here's the video if you haven't seen it (it's pretty good).
sad thing is my dad loves this song. even sadder he had to tell me what "poppin' tags" meant
ok i'll bite what does it mean?
Without consulting the dictionary urbana I believe it means "purchasing new clothes." It's referring to removing the price tag of a newly purchased item.
For me the phrase has always brought with it a reference to the concept of leaving the tag on the clothes so that they could ultimately be returned. So poppin' the tag is a commitment to spending that money and owning the merchandise.
So using that phrase in the context of thrift shopping is especially humorous to me because committing to owning a $3 shirt isn't all that hard to do.. not to mention thrift stores rarely (never?) take returns.
Just watchced that balancing video pretty sure it's 100x cooler because it has japanese commentators. :)
"I'll wear your granddad's clothes. I look incredible. I'm in this big ass coat from that thrift store down the road." Haha I first heard that song on the radio down here in St. Cloud and at first it sounded lame then I listened to the lyrics and was like "what!?!" Def an ode to 409.
