I got a letter from Clear offering interwebs over WiMax. We can get 6Mbps down/500 Kbps up over for $40/month and according to the website we'll have coverage @PMC. If we bundle home and mobile we can get the same up/down bandwidth all over atl for $55/month (for life). The modem for home use is $75 and the usb moden is $59 but we can opt to use our own hardware. Right now there probably aren't many manufacturers but potentially down the road we could buy our own hardware for cheaper.

Anyways once our triple play deal runs out (in august idb) we should at least cancel internet and potentially sign up for some double play package for tv and telephone w/comcast. Or we could get phone service from vonage and just close our comcast acct. We probably have a 2 year contract for the triple play deal but i might be willing to pay the penalty fees so we don't have to pay comcast anymore moneys.

man i've been itching to go with that Clear stuff. if i got a netbook that supported it and we got the double uber package (unlimited super fast home + unlimited mobile) then i could use my netbook anywheres in atl including home work and the clairmont lounge.

p.s. i thought the triple play thing was only for 1 year.. or was it just "99/mo for the first year (and then we remove your kidneys and charge you for it)" ?

either way if you threaten to change carriers the cable co's will usually work with you to find a price / package that you actually want.

p.p.s. how about we don't get phone service and cancel the security system that we never activate? double the savings!

p.p.p.s. man Clear has given their site a bit of an overhaul since i last checked it to see their prices + packages

If we're going to do the home + mobile we need to find out how many mobile clients we can have; i doubt we can share it :(

so i'm a little unclear about this whole wimax thing does wimax mean my blackberry would be able to connect to the interwebs anywhere in ATL just like it's a wifi spot and i wouldn't need a data plan as long as i'm in ATL?

i'm not sure if your blackberry supports wimax / has that particular radio but if it does and we got this service then yes.

also Clear is now servicing Vegas so next time we go we'll have internet anywhere.

i don't think any mobile phones in the US currently support WiMax. Supposedly this HTC phone will support it but it probably won't be available in the US for a while especially since WiMax is only available in a few cities.

aww boo we'd have to get a shared plan to support multiple devices. in that case I say we just get the home plan. with the new iphone os coming out on june 17th I should be able to tether my laptop to my phone. :D but most likely at&t will be a douche about it and require an additional data plan for to enable tethering. :(
