i haven't messed with the desktop; i'm just doing linuxy stuff on the laptop for now. since i've been here a month without my desktop i've pretty much gotten used to using the lappy for most things; additionally i dont have a comfortable place to use the desktop since i didnt bring my desk with me.

and as for the guild wars screenshot the install process worked fine but when i went to play it it said my graphics hardware was unsupported :'-( i'm not even going to try to put G on here because
  1. I dont think i'd enjoy playing it on the lappy and
  2. The graphics hardware probably isn't supported for G either.

I do plan on putting linux back on my desktop again because i've had so much fun with it and because wine and cedega seem like they can handle most things i'll want to run from the windows side of things. i'll let you know how the G install goes when i do that :)

although it's a bit off topic for this thread.. as for work i'm really enjoying it. thursday afternoon (which was virtual friday this week) i finished up an algorithm that i've been reading about and working on. the guy that i'm doing it for said we'll probably write up some patents this coming week 8-)

Woot for linux on the desktop. I got my ATI driver cedega and guild wars installed.. and after much ado I logged in to my guildwars account :) i was getting ~10-30 FPS which is not all that hot. I blame ATI for having shatty linux drivers; that's why my new computer's going to have an nvidia card.

Just dumped Ubuntu 10.10 beta onto my backup work laptop. The new installer is pretty hot. it moves all the user-input-related tasks (like keyboard map username computer name etc etc) until *after* the disk partitioning and then actually starts the install while you're inputting that information. Makes the actual install take that much less time :-D
