Linux on the Laptop

So the angry nutsack and I now have something in common (other than our exotic STDs) -- our laptops are running on Ubuntu Linux. Jon asked me about linux distro's and I recommended Ubuntu because it's rather Ãœber. He said it detected his wireless card right out the box which got me thinking I should try on my laptop again. Not having wireless internet on my laptop was really the only thing keeping me from using linux all the time. Well it turns out there aren't any linux drivers for my card but what they do have is something called ndiswrapper that'll take a windows driver and make it linuxable. So aaaanyway from here on out I'll be rockin hardcore with linux on my laptop (which will henceforth be known as LoL).

p.s. another reason to switch to linux: Native(ish) windows gaming in linux via Cedega. They even support C&CG:ZH 8-) (thanks jon)

REVIV'D.. I've got cedega installed on the lappy. Not sure if i have any game install discs here with me in florida so i might have to get some via newsgroups which i now have copious access to (thanks RoadRunner internets and Jon for telling me this was so). For all you linux cats out there looking for a good newsreader that'll open nzb files i recommend KLibido for its user friendliness and erotic name.

yeah so i finally upgraded to the latest version of Ubuntu.. and *ZAMPH* my wireless no longer works.

it turns out that the new ubuntu includes a driver for broadcom chipsets (the kind of wireless card that i have) but this particular broadcom card doesn't work with that driver. so first i had to say "no bitch dont use your busted ass driver" and then i could carry on with the tried and true ndiswrapper approach. I'm sure you all are very interested in my linux hackery so I'll be sure to keep you posted on every minor detail.
