While I would agree experiment is central to the imperical tradition of science RIGOROUS experiment is essential for any real progress to be made. The Mythbusters while entertaining don't do a great job of eliminating confounding variables.
Little known fact: it was a requirement that neither host have a background in academic science.
Otherwise we may as well test what nacho cheese tastes like with windex and a wasp thrown into it (oh wait)...
