I spent the early part of this week up at Oak Ridge interviewing for a position at the national lab. Pretty grueling process: in 2 days I was interviewed separately by 16 different staff members in addition to giving an hour long presentation. My next interview is out in Seattle (Gig Harbor actually) with a company that has a total of 8 employees. Pretty sweet company that does numerical simulations for radiation cancer therapy planning. Hey V are you going to be around the weekend of Feb. 4? I'm interviewing that Friday and they're putting me up in a hotel for the rest of the weekend so I can go out and see the city.

Yeah I'll be around!  But I work on the weekends which is pretty lame.  I can sorta tell you where to go and stuff and depending on work and stuff maybe I can meet up with you somewhere.  Bring a raincoat.

So looks like I fly in Thursday afternoon (Feb. 3).  If you're around maybe we could grab dinner that night?  They're taking me out to dinner after the interview on Friday but I'd probably also be available after that on Friday if that would work better.  I'm flying back to Atlanta Saturday afternoon I think.

Apparently getting to Gig Harbor involves driving across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge which I think is pretty awesome from an engineering/history viewpoint.

I got my job back!  So the company I worked for went bankrupt and got bought by a German company.  They kept about 8 of the old staff and when it came time to restaff the office they said "Call Rachel! She is awesome!"  So I'm working for most of the same people at the same office (close to the house) but I get better benefits and we'll have more clients so more things for me to do.  Really pretty much the best thing that could have happened.

Congrats!  Find out if they have a connection who can get good deals on lederhosen.  They're expensive!
