you've probably seen the
commercials featuring billy mays for
espn360. it pitches it as the ability to watch all sports covered by ESPN online from any computer - "live sports at work? better than work at work!" and "now my job is way less soul crushing :)".
but from wiki: "ESPN360.com is a broadband network for live sports programming in the United States Mexico Brazil Chile Middle East and Europe (except Italy). In the U.S. the network can only be accessed through Internet service providers who have signed up and paid ESPN for the service. The entire service is paid by the individual as a part of their ISP cost whether they use the service or not."
so in order to have access your ISP has to pay the ransom to ESPN for ALL subscribers on their network (cant be an optional tier) so everyone gets it (and pays for it) whether they want it or not. (comcast does so ya'll are paying for it and can get it. cox does not so i dont have to pay for it but i also cant use it.) but if your provider doesn't pay for it you're SOL because there's no personal subscription because then no provider would ever agree to paying the ransom.
and of course if ESPN is broadcasting a game they have exclusive access rights that prevent any other service (subscription or not) from broadcasting the game online. farking bullshit
