i got a midi controller and i'm using a program called Reason.
i can basically choose any of several midi or audio samples and play them and record them in real time. there is also a feature that basically auto corrects your timing. plus you can go in and manually program yourself to be on time in the piano roll and change velocity and pitch and such. it makes everything effortless and it's a lot of fun to play with.
