mashup-remix-web2.0 tune submitted to
Dwelling of Duels for August '09 free month competition. I'm hoping to be in the top quartile this time around. And I'm hoping to increase my submission rate from 2/3rds of a song per year. Maybe to 3 or so.edit: I'd say I'm 85% satisfied with my song more details after the results of the competition are in.

They'll be posted and listed proper after the anonymous (unanimous) judging and voting. I'll have my writeup for it then. It's currently available for download but I have to maintain anonymity (unanimity). So it was another pretty good turn out for DoD this month. Last time I entered it was the hugest DoD evar. Guess I'm good for business.

I want to say 'CaveStory - Shadow on the Moonsong' sounds most like your handy work although i've never heard you mention the game before. but i'm sure there are a lot of things you do of which i'm unaware. It's my 2nd favorite. I'd say hands down the Super Metroid song is tops.

For Scott:
My entry was indeed Shadow on the Moonsong. It came in 16th out of 24 which is a bit disappointing but I'm not too worried about it. So the song mashed up Audioslave's Shadow on the Sun and Moonsong from the video game Cave Story. Cave Story was made by one Japanese guy over a five year period. He programmed the whole thing made all the art all the music and wrote the story. It's free to download and play on a PC or a PSP that's hacked for homebrew. It's kind of a Metroid-like platformer but I've mentioned it before on the 409 and it really is a great piece of work. Moonsong has such a beautiful progression and line I wanted to try to see what I could do with it. Also I'm going to spoil some Cave Story because I'm guessing you philistines won't actually play it: The level the song comes up in is about 2/3rds of the way through the game when all the other good guys have been captured or killed. You just hatched a dragon so that you can begin your final assault towards where the bad guy is. The doctor who hatched the dragon asks you if you just want to leave and fly away with him on the dragon. If you say yes you both hop on the dragon and fly off past the clouds into the moonrise with this song playing. Some narration text comes over and says all the good guys were killed or enslaved and no one knows what happened to you or the doctor maybe they lived the rest of their lives quietly in the mountains. I don't think any movie or video game has conveyed the sense of abandonment I felt during the sequence. It was pretty good. And Scott I can see why you like the Super Metroid song. Sounds kind of similar to your newer Fire Ant type stuff.

Also remember that Soulja Boy/Travis Barker song I dubbed some guitar over? It's on
myspace but see if you can find the Moonsong melody in it.

the reason (pun intended) the song sounds the same as my stuff is because i'm 100% certain he's using the same program . . . reason (get it now? lolers). anyways you've inspired me. i'm gonna have to make a song for one of these upcoming duels.
