I've started the process of migrating club409 to the new hosting with crucial. I ended up finding a better coupon that saved me $100 instead of $50 so for the first 2 years the monthly cost is under $4.

A few nifty things about the new hosting:
  • 250 Gigs of space
  • No decency restrictions
  • Unique IP
  • Shell access although I haven't requested it yet
  • National Integration

We will no longer have the "yellow" login for members-only images -- I've got a script set up to check if you're logged in to your club409 account before serving up the images. I've got plogger set up on the new server and its images are behind the members-onlyness. It's still got ~2400 images queued on the FTP.

I don't have the sub-domain (img.club409.com) set up yet.. I'll deal with that once the plogger uploads are done.

It'll probably be another week or 4 before I finish testing everything and then I'll switch over the DNSes to have club409.com point to the new hosting. And then it might be some more time after that before the plogger comment integration is done; I haven't looked at any of the details there.

I've switched the DNS servers to the new host. The clock is still wrong but it's just a simple SQL query to fix any posts that are made between now and whenever it gets fixed.

The plogger that's up right now is a bit wonky as in it looks like something broke all of the thumbnails between last night and now. I'm probably going to wipe it out and start anew so no photo gallery for a while :'-(

also i haven't tested the image upload on the new server due to img.club409 complications so go ahead and don't upload anything. I'd disable the script but i'm lazy and at work.

Incidentally since I changed it to relative timing on the home page ("2 hours ago" etc) the problem with the time zone isn't as pronounced as it would have been.. ah well.

Here's my current plan of action:

1. Write SQL query to convert all timestamps currently in the database to UTC.
2. Write PHP code to support personalized time zones in your profile.
3. ???
4. Profit.
