"Sweet merciful christ I DONT have cable"

So Brighthouse Cable collectively decided to be an enormous douchebag. At my current apartment I was signed up for the Digital cable combo pack + HD service an HD DVR and regular cable internet. I was going to transfer my service to the new apartment.

The new apartment complex informed me that they were paying for the Standard cable which is like 12 bucks. I thought "sweet my bill will be lower." However comma by paying for my standard cable I was no longer getting the "combo pack" and was basically paying for each service a la cart which resulted in a higher bill. I called and told them "screw that I dont want any TV service except for what the apartment is paying for and I'll just pay for internet." The switchover is scheduled to happen today between 6 and 8 pm.

However last night a day before the cable at my current residence was supposed to be turned off I was greeted with a "server not reachable" error message when I tried to get on the interwebs. I turned on the TV and all I got was a big grey screen.

So now I'm cancelling all of my Brighthouse services (except for what the apartment is paying for) and subscribing to any DSL service I can find in the area.

I am Consumer; hear me RAWR!

i believe brighthouse bought the cox in florida a few years ago. i've known people to use the earthlink. perhaps you can acquire your own T2 line and just pay verizon for a hole. ahole.

V you've asked me several times about the digital conversion but admittedly I wasn't informed enough to give you a good answer. The link describes everything you need. Apply for a coupon today if you haven't already. It'll probably take several weeks for you to receive the coupon but it could save you $40 on your digital converter box. :O

Most boxes will get the job done but supposedly some will produce better sound and picture quality. It's also recommended that you find a box that allows analog pass-through which basically lets you watch analog channels without having to disconnect/turn off your digital converter. This will be useful during this transition period while some channels are still broadcasting in analog until they upgrade. Some boxes provide an eletronic programming guide which is pretty nifty. You should also look for a box that has channel up/down buttons on it in case you lose/break your remote. The best box I found is the Zenith DTT901 but unfortunately it's out of stock on all the sites (that i've checked) that accept the govt coupon. The zinwell zat 950A got good reviews too.

If you don't have an VHF/UHF antenna it could help pick up more channels. You can find one at almost any retail store for $10-15.

That's all you really need to know (and more) so be prepared!
