today i came home to find out that there was a fire in my apt complex... in the room next to mine in fact. set off the sprinklers and flooded the apts on the lower levels. for once i lucked out and the fire and water damage was contained to that side of the building esp lucky since i haven't gotten around to getting renter's insurance yet.
then once they turned the power back on i turned on my computer and after 5 mins it started beeping like crazy. the cpu hit the 75C critical temperature alarm (normal is 40-60C for those who don't know). pulled the plug real quick cleaned out the fans and made sure it had decent ventilation. then booted back up and the firefox bookmarks and user data were corrupted. luckily it does auto backups so that was restored and i escaped without any damage

nah... XP is actually pretty good at keeping things from corrupting on forced shutdowns. the corruption with firefox is actually a known bug thats reproducable under certain situations
