Hey Mike I think I'm allergic to beeswax. What kind of doctor should I see to get an allergy test? I used someone's burt's bees lip balm at the horse show last weekend and my lips got these blisters all over them. I usually use chapstick which does not contain beeswax so that's the only thing I can think of. I also switched mascara a few weeks ago to one that has beeswax in it and my eyes have been red and irritated ever since. It just dawned on me today that it could be an allergy like that. Just wanted some advice.

Beeswax allergies do occur but there are several other chemicals found both in lip balm and various cosmetics (lanolin in particular) that are also candidates. A GP can do a simple scratch and patch test for you but a dermatologist would almost certainly have more experience with contact allergies like you're describing.

I don't have a problem with lotions containing lanolin though. Isn't there a doctor like an allergist?

There are allergists but they do more with hay fever grass pollen etc. I agree with the dermatologist you probably will get a skin patch test that goes on the back for about 2 days. If the allergist does do things associated with cosmetic allergies you would probably get a skin prick (with a needle) so the patch looks more desireable to me.
But being the Dr. and all which allows me to see reason and logic clearly I would simply say stop using the products that are causing the problem....

I'm pretty sure you don't have to be a doctor to figure that one out. The burt's bees was a one time thing now I know never to buy it and I'm getting new mascara on the way home since it is a necessity. Needles don't bother me I want fast results I'll probably go with that. But my insurance doesn't kick in until I've been here for 3 months which would be December 1st. Gross. So until then I guess I'm going to avoid beeswax and hope that's the problem.

That is true but when I speak with patients I'm told to introduce myself as dr. justin because I was introducing myself as my full name and that I'm a 1st year. I was told to change but I changed it too far to "chief of surgery" and that wasn't found humorous.
I meant to check but I dont see it anywhere how did your interview go? I'm assuming well.
And I may be wrong but I think any allergy test you are going to do will take a few days sort of like TB the results arent over night.

It doesn't matter my insurance doesn't kick in until December 1st. I'm just going to avoid beeswax until then. Hopefully I don't get stung and die. That would be bad. And then it would be the fault of my employer for witholding my insurance for 3 months.
