hoorah :-D xorg.conf files are kinda wonky but if you take the time to pick thru them and actually see what's going on it eventually makes some sense. It's especially fun to try to get two monitors working the way you want them to :)

Yah wholly crap two monitorness was no fun. Also its kinda fun to see if you can mess with the video card config so that you laptop only tries to use the left 3/4ths of the screen. :D

actually it was trying to get two monitors working that i noticed this issue. any recommendations on how to get the dual display working? one at 1280x1024 and the other at 1920x1080 ;)
so far i have two devices tied to the video card two monitors and two screens with xinerama (or whatever its called) enabled). tweaking things gave me various levels of crappiness with it actually using both monitors but the resolutions couldn't be changed.

argh...i'm back to the same problem of hanging on reboots. i had saved my xorg.conf from when it was working and i'm using that now but still nothing so i'm clueless. dual displays also not working except in clone mode (both displays show same thing). there's an ati control panel that i didn't know about that is supposed to allow me to switch to side by side but it tells me i need to restart x at which point my computer hangs and when i get it restarted it has reverted back to clone mode.
the card is a radeon x700 pro
why can't ubuntu and ati just play nicely together?

has anyone else who's upgraded to feisty noticed any general bugginess? i'm getting a lot of windows-type behavior like hanging at random times (has happened several times each with open office calc and connecting to a remote machine using vpn/ssh). i think i'm gonna try a fresh install of feisty in case i screwed something up in the upgrade just wondering if anyone else was having issues.
