We used hamachi in the past but according to this list GameRanger is better (and it supports CC G:ZH).

It seems like you have to buy hamachi now so maybe we can try out GameRanger.

I use vent for our meetings but the button wasn't being recognized when I was in game (left control) and I couldn't quickly figure out how to use it without push to talk.  I think it's because left control is bound in CC but I didn't check

I can set up a vent server.

Anyhow my friend and I spent about an hour trying to connect to the same game last night but couldn't get it to work.  I made sure he had generals updated (1.8) and ZH updated (1.04) but we still couldn't see each other's match.

Apparently the ZH servers were taken down in 2011 but Revora was created to support online play.  You have to register an account and then when logging in with G you have to use that email and password.  The integration worked really well you can even see who is online on their web site which is cool but for some reason we still can't see each other's games.

So we'll have to use a VPN like GameRanger to get it to work.

Anyhow it had been a while since I installed G so remember to set the game to XP Service 2 compatibility mode.  Also you have to run G as admin for the update to work (try to connect online to initiate the update).  If you do get Revora make sure to update G and ZH before you install it because my friend had trouble getting the update for G but I got it fine (I updated before installing Revora).

Oh...I just realized why we probably can't see each other's games.  His auto update through G didn't work so I found an update online.  It says it's 1.8 but it's likely slightly different than the update I got.  That's the only thing I can thing of to explain why we can't see each other in game.

Oh well good luck setting up!  Having to put in the 4 discs to install was very nostalgic. :)

Are there any older/current games on STEAM perhaps that would be good for multiplayer and easy to setup? I'm not really current on the gaming environment.

Aww you could've gotten the updates from in-game that's how I updated.  We might have trouble seeing each other's games.  Who knows though.

We'll need revora if we want to try online lobbies.  If we're just playing each other it doesn't matter and we can just use game ranger.  I haven't tried out game ranger yet.

I has to use Origin for Crysis 2 and honestly it was really terrible so I doubt they have any support for older games.
