Dear Padre Patronizing

The accepted recipe for Black 'n' Tan is Bass and Guinness. This fact is made quite plainly on official Guinness paraphernalia you can get at any decent Irish pub. The most liberal definition I've heard is "Guinness and Mild" which could include any number of pale sweet beers.

Recently I've seen an insurgency of "all-Guinness" Black 'n' Tan replacing the Bass with Harp or Smithwicks. These are not bad drinks and I can appreciate Irish nationalism as much as the next Irish-American. However they are not MY Black 'n' Tan.
