I think it's ok to say there are two separate things going on - a very fair and generous treatment of the majority of college athletes providing an education that's value is way beyond just the tuition if the student chooses to use it.  But that money comes from boosters and revenues and is generated in the largest degree by a small number of those athletes.  I think the fairness shifts dramatically from the point of view that these few are not simply student athletes but professional athletes who are doing everyone involved a favor (and yah they know it and are cocky dicks about it) by playing for the school entertaining hundreds of thousands and generating millions of dollars but are given a pitiful fraction of it and are punished (more frustratingly the school is punished while those athletes move on) for getting even a little more in return - forget what they would receive in an any way normal reimbursement scheme.  In other words 110K in tuiiton + an education is a great deal for most athletes and promoting education in that way is something we as a freaking society should be proud of.  But from the point of view of who generates ticket and memorabilia sales and booster donations that go into the millions it's a joke and exploitation.  It's the schools and NCAA using the altruism of lifting up so many real student athletes who will have real jobs and benefit from their education to justify walking away with the preponderance of the profits generated by those athletes who are really mass-entertainers not student-athletes.  

 Or not .  i dunno.

LSU's brand new offensive coordinator was just diagnosed with parkinsons and so he's stepping down before his first game. now our OC will be the offensive line coach. fml

But seriously a note from another article about it: "One outstanding thing to remember while reading: Paul Dee was the Miami AD from 1993-2008. So a lot of what is detailed in this story went down on his watch. You know what his title was until last summer? Chairman of the NCAA Committee on Infractions."

Miami you're about to get raped. I wonder if all these scandals will finally cause a death to the current NCAA athletics model. The NFL and NBA really need a minor league system so star players that just want money can go straight to being paid for their talents rather than pretend they're "unpaid amateurs".

And to add icing to the cake this time there's a third party with a vested interest in exposing all the payments: the banks

Mom and I have season tickets again.  She'll be coming from Chickamauga so we won't be tailgating for the first game but we will be there!
