Also this textbox is kind of quirky. You can't use the arrow keys to navigate correctly. Paste a lot of text (like the text from my previous post) and try to navigate to the top line. The cursor actually moves to the top but the display isn't updating so you still see the last few lines of the text. It may just be a PHP text box but look into if you can. Most people just make one-line posts anyways but it can be frustrating--especially when you have a terrible memory like me and you cant't even remember what you said at the beginning of the same post. :O

edit: By the way Club409 IS the best forum online! (especially since this is the only one I actually visit) I'm glad to see you're still working on it. Amazing work man!

Oh one more thing I think you can get rid of the"NCAA 2006" link. Or perhaps just move it to the "(Less) Usefuls" section. ; ) Maybe you can change it to a "Random Club 409 Link" which just navigates you to some random thread. OR!!! Maybe a "Today on Club 409" Link which takes you to a page that shows you all the posts made on this day from this year and all years in the past.

the texbox thing might be browser quirk.. what browser / version are you using? for what it's worth i use ctrl+home to get to the top of my text boxes :)

i like the "club409 on this day in history" idea.. plus it'll be easy to implement. thanks SQL.

Also applying tags to threads is a nice touch. It'll basically be a database table of tags that you can apply to a thread. and with AJAX I can make an auto-complete text box so when you start typing a tag to add on it'll show you suggestions for tags that are already in the system. 8-)

Yeah it's probably IE 7. :O I typically just use page-up if there is a lot of text but sometimes I realize that I forgot to mention something in the middle of a long post and I'm already at the top of the box editing something else so I hit the up-arrow to go up one line but nothing appears to happen. :T No worries just wanted to throw it out there. That's what I get for being a Microsoft whore. The paychecks are nice though. :D

I can't argue with that; paychecks are way funner than traditional whoring techniques.

so matt after all these improvements will the code for 409 be packageable? I mean I think you could market that package. Apache would be like OMG FTL. :-D Oh and you could profit share to all your beta-testes. ;-) And those funds could go to T-shirts! Although again t-shirts are kind of a permanent change to your wardrobe . . . kind of intimidating . . .

well unfortunately there's already pre-packaged totally free open source forum solutions that do way more than i've implemented. The #1 forum software that comes to mind is phpbb. In fact that's where I went to get ideas about how to properly implement the auto-login.

That being said if someone still wanted to buy the source code from me I'd probably be willing to package it up for them.

I don't know if this has already been suggested since I'm too lazy to read all seven pages of stuff. Anyway just a minor thing: you should put an extra newline at the end of each post. Even though the background color changes long posts can kind of run together with the next post.
