for all you dozens of fans of the first album i shall satiate your appetite for a follow up. recording is well on the way. in fact all is done except for the drums. i sent them to gary today once he's done writing his parts he will head to the studio to lay them down and send them to me to put into the final mix. so hopefully within a few monts i will surprise you with a 409 exclusive of the Uranus EP. p.s. Drew check your inbox. i'm gonna send you the first drafts for a second ear on the mixes.

gave a quick listen to all of them seems the ux2 really took the production up a notch esp the vocals better write up later

yeah. i'm in love with this thing. and if you only knew how terrible the recording situation was for vocals in my dorm. i have to give major props to my microphone for that.

my bad on taking so long:i think "being john malkovic" is my favorite so far and the tweaks i would suggest would apply to the rest of the songs1) easy on the reverb i know it can be used to cover up some shortcomings in production but it makes the sound a lot less in your face2) rhythm distortion guitar - probably working on this would do the most benefit to the overall production right now it's so fuzzy you can't hear the articulation i'm pretty sure you overdubbed and panned the track but it's hard to tell here's a basic tutorial that really gave me a good basic idea of how to do things i always try to decide whether i'm going to just dub the track twice (hard left and hard right) or if i'm just going to go crazy and have all kinds of dubbed tracks in all kinds of panned situations for examples of the former "the fake sound of progress" by lostprophets particularly at 3:22 for the latter most smashing pumpkins songs listen to them with headphones on and pay attention to how the rhythm guitars tracks are panned and eq'd also listen to tool with headphones and pay attention the same way tool will sometimes keep the guitar tracked once then they'll bust out the hard panned over dubbingfor the actual tone of the track i'd try a few more amp models cabs and mics on your ux2 and keep a check on your mid-highs on the eq one thing you always have to be careful of though with the rhythm guitar is making sure it doesn't get in the low frequencies too much and muddy up the bass so it's a balancing game3) digging that you're doing some lead stuff once again easy on the reverb try fiddling with the delay and see if that gives you the sound you want delay is tricky because you either want to set the delay in time with the song (calculate bpm to millisecs and use that or some multiple or fraction) or most decidedly out of time with the song if it's kind of approximate it will clutter up the tempoguess that's about it looking forward to full on with drums and all

no sweat. yeah minus the acoustic guitar all of the guitars are dubbed and panned. as for reverb i pretty much just used preset that i liked. it may be too late for adjustments in that area which is fine. as a first time producer i'm not looking for perfection. i expect to learn and make better sounding stuff as i go along. already dropped the low end on all guitars after reading one article. not sure which mix you have. anyways after i get the drums back i'll get a final mix your way for a quick once over.thanks for the tips.

ok. i have a feeling you were talking about the delay on the solo so i went in and tweaked that out. i also panned the guitars harder. check your mailbox and let me know if that was what you were looking for.

i prob had a 'feeling' you were talking about the delay because you did. never underestimate the effects of listening to chinese all day.but yeah as for reverb it was all in the effect when i recorded it so what's done is done.

Maybe i'm behind the times here but I just heard La Roux for the first time on the radio today and I was digging their sound. lots of square / triangle / nintendo sounding waves thumping base and distinct female vocals. definitely worth a listen; the song i heard was "bulletproof"
